[GB1E] V1.2!


Ohoy Kadungganan, here is the balancing for the new version, which seeks to round out the techs and features. I think we're in a pretty good spot now!

v1.2 Changelog

Across The System

  • Tumabaga Rule now has the following clause: “Additionally, if your dice pool is ever reduced to 0, you still roll 1.”

War Drama

  • Honor: Changed the Honor limit to just 8.
  • Consequences: Impair Consequences has been folded into Wound. An Injury section has been added.
  • Downtime Actions: Included a Heal Injuries Downtime Action.
  • Alignments now have a max of 7.

Violence

After seeing gameplay of Fray, I’ve been thinking about how it isn’t a viable playstyle which might make damage types pretty singular. One of my favorite Wuxia series, Legend of the Condor Heroes, has the martial artist Ouyang Feng, who is a master of toxicology, and I wanted that fiction to be presented as a potential playstyle or build. To that end, Fray has been reworked to be a potent attacking tool that stays but has the drawback of being delayed, unlike the instant hits of the Violence Cast. Hopefully with this change, Fray builds can see an upsurge. Fray is no longer a Bane. Additionally, Fray can Defeat Kadungganan. 

  • Moved the HP from Martial Abilities to its own section describing it, as it cannot be raised and is always dictated by your active discipline.
  • Added a section that explains the Attack Composition of attacks and attack types.
  • In conjunction with above, Bleed now has the following effect instead: “Whenever you move, whether voluntarily or involuntarily, you suffer 1 True Hit.”
  • Moved the automatic 1 Hit of the Violence Cast to after the rolls, so that it can still be cancelled out by Defends, but still have an important role in increasing the Hit potentials of attacks.
  • Weather: Storm and Thunderstorm now have the following effects: “All Metal Attacks gain +1 Hit”.
  • Consumables: Geomantic Moondrop now only cost 1 Beat to interact with.
  • Consumables: Mending Drug now has the following text: "Cleanse 1 Status or all Fray Teeth from yourself.”
  • Surge now cleanses Fray.

Enemies

  • Fixed multiple typos across the board.
  • Chiefs have had their HPs buffed across the board.

Disciplines

In general, a number of effects have been given Marks and Fields, as I realized that they have been pretty underutilized. Additionally, Fields are unique now: you cannot have two of the same type at a time on the battlefield.

Buwaya Lancer

  • Death Roll Style’s lore has been fixed.

Mangangayaw

  • Bleeding Steel Monsoon’s first +1 Beat now does the following: +1 Beat to gain BRV Up (1) instead of Eviscerate.
  • Seize Heaven’s Thunderclaps now has the following text: “At Strike 4+, Spend 3 Beats to explode into a monsoon of violence, make an Overwhelming Skewering Water Melee Attack vs every enemy on the battlefield. Then teleport to a square adjacent to any of the enemies in the field.”

Warspeaker

  • Fast Friends now has the following effect: Mark one fighter in range 4 until the end of your next Fulmination. While marked, they suffer POS Down and BRV Down.
  • Hibiscus Laughs Sutra now costs 2 Beats.

Warrior Balyan

  • Xenoglossy and War Trance have been tweaked to allow for greater movement. Rooster now heals instead of inflicting Fray.
  • Purification Rite now has the following text: “Spend 1 Beat to perform a healing rite, cleansing yourself or 1 adjacent ally of 1 Status Effect or all Fray.
    • It also now has the following: Spend 2 Beats instead to put down a Burst 1 Purification Field in range 2. All allies that start their Fulmination within the field cleanse 1 Stats or remove 1 Fray Tooth.

Headtaker

  • Head Lopping Attack now has the following boosts: +1 Beat to mark one fighter in range 3 after making the attack. When that marked fighter moves, you may move after them, mirroring their movements.

Makinaadmanon

  • Curse now has the following effect: Mark 1 fighter in range 5 until the end of your next Fulmination. While marked, they suffer Eviscerate and cannot gain Boons.
  • Baha’s base Technique is reduced to blast 3.
  • ENLIGHTENMENT: Heaven To Earth Vajra now has the following passive effect: “Concordance: At the start of your Fulmination, choose an Element. All your attacks with that Element gain +1d, but you suffer Vulnerability to that Element as well.”

Beast Hunter

  • Gilded Hound Nails: Spend 1 Beat to strike with gilded claws: inflict Fray 1 on a fighter in range 2 and then mark them until the end of your next Fulmination. While marked, all their Defenses suffer -1. +2 Beats to upgrade the mark: while marked, they suffer Sunder instead.

Martyr

  • Clarified several techniques.
  • Indomitable Pamaagi now cleanses Fray and grants immunity to Fray.

Sarimanok Knight

  • Kartike’s Arrow now has the following text: Spend 2 Beats to fire a burning arrow of incandescent fulgur: Area Fire Bravery Attack vs all chosen targets in Line 6, then mark the target until the end of your next Fulmination. Whenever a fighter marked by this technique makes an attack, inflict 1 Hit on them.
  • Shah Vayu’s Vengeant Javelin has been edited to create a Field. 

Strifesinger

  • Strifesinger’s Singing Aura now no longer costs Beats: you simply choose a song at the beginning of your Fulmination.
  • Increased the ranges of Thundering Note and Healing Note to range 3 and 4 respectively. Clarified that the notes dissipate after moved/collided into. Healing Note now has the following effect: “Any ally that moves into or collides with it gains Block 2, any enemy that moves into or collides with it suffer 1 True Hit.”

Swordfish Cavalier

  • Water Spear is now a melee attack
  • Sea Javelin is now the ranged attack.
  • Ocean Blade now targets all fighters in range 2 path 3.
  • Sea Lantaka now has the following augment: +1 Beat to put down a Burst 1 Sea Field in the burst area. Any ally in the field can make their attack into Water and they heal 1 when they start their Fulmination within.

Baril Witch

  • Tweaked Impale God Stance: “You suffer Stop while in this stance, but you have +2 range to any attacks with range and all ranged attacks convert 1 Hit into a True Hit. Spend 1 Beat to remove the Stance.”
  • Shotgun Psalm: now has the following augment: +1 Beat to turn all squares in the Path into Burning Terrain.

Bladeweaver

  • Shield Weave and Sword Weave have been tweaked: 
    • Shield Weave: Spend 1 Weaving when an ally you can see rolls POS or RES to add your FTH to the roll.
    • Sword Weave: Spend 1 Weaving when an ally you can see rolls POS or RES to add your FTH to the roll.
  • Lightning Blade is now Magicked Blade and does the following: Melee Metal Bravery or Faith Attack vs 1 fighter in range 3. If you use this while you are Staggered or Critical, this uses Bravery + Faith instead.
  • Kinnara Slash now lets you Teleport 1 out of adjacency.
  • Hati Tiyempo’s active aspect now inflicts Hits on enemies only when you teleport.
  • Hito Mentala now gives immunity to Fray (1). 
  • Musang Talon Mentala is now an attack that gives a supportive mark, which still has the effect of Greater Sharpness.
  • Flying Sword Mentala has been tweaked into a more offensive effect.

Murderglave

  • Sibat Caligo now has the following augment: +1 Beat to inflict Juggle (1) on the last target in the line.
  • Blackened God Body now has the following augment: +1 Beat to Salt the Earth: put down a Burst 1 Field centered on your square. All enemies that start their Fulmination in the Field suffer 1 Hit, and Pull 1 to you.

Sword Saint

  • Blade of Makaubos has been tweaked. I’ve thought that it didn’t have the same juice as other techniques. Check it out!
  • Passionflower Dance’s Effect has been altered as it was too similar to Ocean Joust Style. It now has the following effect: Spend 1 Beat to unsheathe your blade and materialize slashes: make an Area Air Faith Attack vs all fighters in blast 3. +1 Beat: To inflict Fray 2 on each enemy as in the field as well. +1 Beat: To put down a Slashing Field where the Blast is located. All fighters that end their Fulmination in the Slashing Field suffer 1 Hit. 
  • Sword Judas is now no longer a Boon but a Token: Spend 1 Beat to gain the Sword Judas Token, of which you can only have 1 of at a time. When you are the target of a Melee or Ranged Attack, you may discard the Token to immediately cancel that attack against you, and then inflict Unbalance (2) at the attacker. +1 Beat when you gain the Token to gain a Burst 2 aura that moves with you. All enemies in the burst gain Provoke to you. +1 Beat when you gain the Token to also teleport 2 after discarding it.

Mender

  • Cleansing Mixture now cleanses Fray as well.
  • Healing Spell has been tweaked to be more usable in most cases.
  • Ultrasoul Palm now targets any adjacent fighter.
  • Blasting Oil now has the following text: “Spend 1 Beat to give an ally in range 3 a Blasting Unguent. When that ally starts their fulmination, they may Rush 2 as the blasting unguent sends them into a direction, and then their next Fire Attack gains +1d.
  • Gahum Dampening Field now has the following text: Spend 1 Beat to give the ointment on a fighter in range 3: their next attack Dullness. +1 Beat to create a Burst 1 Dampening Field centered on the original target. All enemies in the Dampening Field have their attacks suffer Dullness.

Warsmith

  • Hammer Shatters Earth was too potent at its base, so Knockdown’s additional effect of -1 to all Defenses is gone.

Anting-Anting

  • Crocodile Tooth now has the following effect: You have 1 Crocodile Tooth Charge every Violence. When a fighter that you have inflicted Fray upon rolls their Fray Teeth, you may spend the Charge to make it so that their Fray Teeth scores True Hits on a 5+. 
  • Stone Geni Idol now inflicts Fray 1 per 10 on Attack Teeth, Fray inflicted through this Anting-Anting with a single attack is counted as just a single instance of Fray.
  • Godtree Kalasag has an updated effect: From Strike 1 to 3, when you roll POS, you gain Defends on 5+ on your Defense Teeth. Lose this benefit at Strike 4+.
  • Sorcerer’s Talisman has an updated effect: When you put down a Field, increase it’s size by 1 (ie., Burst 1 becomes Burst 2.)
  • Hatred Agimat has been reduced to Burst 1.
  • Path of Concordance Set now has the following effect: When you spend 2-3 Beats on a single Violence, gain Overwhelming on your next Attack.
  • Iron Skin Mutya now gives Protect (2) instead of (3).

I notice there is no adjustment for Heavenspear. As written, their Enlightenment is basically an instant kill for any enemy they choose, including Chiefs. Is that intended?
