Public Playtest 2!

Gubat Banwa Public Playtest 2

Ohoy Kadungganan! The version 2 of the Public Playtest sees a bunch of rollbacks to earlier mechanics in the private playtest as game feel is consolidated. However the mechanics become firmer and firmer in my mind, and no more underlying changes will be done moving forward.

Public Playtest 2 has…

The return to 3 Techniques!

An earlier version of the Private Playtests used 3 Actions on your turn, cribbed from Pathfinder 2e and D&D 4e. As I designed more Disciplines for GB1e, I've increasingly found myself trying to insert weird loopholes to justify the Move+Act Action Economy, and felt that it's become a bit of a barrier to mental load. 3 "Techniques" as the Actions are called, are easier and more streamlined, as well as conveys that ballistic martial arts kineticism that the fiction entails! You can now leap over a low table, inflict violence on an enemy, and then shove them into the table in one turn!

Additionally, since there must be a way to balance multiple attacks, there is now a Combo Breaker Penalty. Find out what it means in the PDF!

Manuscript of Songs!

A lore section at the end of the book, this is a loose collection of writings and songs and other lore tidbits that'll get updated over time until 1e's release.  Learn about the Holy Beasts, Hara Tanggal, and the Awakened Nahigmata, and more!

New Disciplines!

Ported over finally are Tigpana, the Archer that embraces the Universal Flow, and Headtaker: the practitioner of Ritual Killing!

And more~

Here are more miscellany that has been added and changed:

  • Piercing is now Skewering. Something I also used in Karanduun, it has a more visceral feel.
  • New resistive stat: Resolve. Resist is now used for physical effects, while Resolve is used for spiritual effects.
  • Spaces turned into Squares, and each square is now 1 dupa long and high. 1 dupa is 1 fathom, around 6-ish feet. This is to help people imagine the fiction even better, and ground everything within fiction.
  • New Art, such as the first few Nature Arts! And all the art for all the Folk, by @lntpblk, are in!
  • A new range: Melee. Representative of "corto" in Filipino Martial Arts. Melee range are intensely close: it only targets orthogonal spaces.
  • New Range Counting: To help technique range balancing, there's a new range counting measure: every other square is 2. Similar to D&D3e, if you would count diagonally, the first square is 1, the second square would be 2 (so net 3), and then the next one after that would be 1 again.
  • New Anting-Anting: Hawk's Talon Bangle, Third Eye Gem, Interlinked Gold Chain, Raiding Rope

What do the abilities do? I'm about to run a game using this system and I like everything in it, but the abilities seem entirely inconsequential to the crunch of the system. If there is no mechanical benefit to having higher or lower ability scores, then maybe consider removing the restriction on the 6 points and just having it as part of character concept building/a character concept tool.
